BB in support of wage hike for apparel workers

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has raised a caution that, if wages of apparel sector workers are not increased then this would have a negative impact on exports, as the government’s ability to strike the intended economic growth rate would also be affected.

The warning from the side of the Central Bank has come, as it released its monetary policy statement on July 19, 2010.

BB said that, there is an urgent need to raise the prevailing minimum wage rates as they are now far below than the minimum wages being paid to other rural labourers. The bank said that, this is equally important to do so for survival of the workers and that, it would also be an answer to the apprehensions of consumer lobbies present in the export markets of developed countries over fair dealings with the workers.

Making a mention of the GDP growth rate of 6.7 percent as set by the government, BB said that, the worker strife prevailing in the apparel sector needs to be sorted out on an immediate basis.

INVISTA continues to stretch the boundaries in denim

INVISTA will showcase its latest innovations for denim at the Kingpins show in New York on July 13 and 14 with products representing four distinct fabric themes: Super Stretch, Super Recovery, Super Comfort, and Super Durability. The stand will feature innovative fabrics and garments, all made with INVISTA products, by some of INVISTA’s key denim customers.

• The Super Stretch category will lead off with fabrics and garments made with LYCRA fiber, sometimes in concert with INVISTA’ s LYCRA T400 fiber. According to Jean Hegedus, INVISTA’s global marketing director for denim, the Super Stretch category poses key challenges for mills and brands alike. “In talking with our customers, we find the main difficulty with Super Stretch fabrics is achieving good fabric stability. Typically, as you increase stretch in fabrics, you also increase the tendency for higher growth and shrinkage,” Hegedus said. To help address these issues, INVISTA has developed new quality standards and best practices for making Super Stretch fabrics.

Scarlett Johansson, once again face for MANGO campaign

Scarlett Johansson, one of the most internationally famous actresses of the moment, has once again placed herself under the orders of the photographer Mario Sorrenti to star in the new MANGO campaign for the Autumn Winter 2010-2011.

An emblematic residence in Los Angeles was the setting chosen by MANGO for the photo shoot, led by the acclaimed photographer Mario Sorrenti, who has collaborated with MANGO since Scarlett became the image of the firm. With regard to him, Scarlett recently commented: “Mario Sorrenti makes me feel very comfortable: the sessions are great fun”. This synergy is obvious in the result of the photo shoot, which reveals a more mature and sophisticated Scarlett, without renouncing her characteristic elegance and sex appeal. Camilla Nickerson was responsible for the styling of the session, while Stéphane Marais once again did the make-up with Oribe as the hair stylist. Together, they were responsible for preparing a beautiful Scarlett for the session.

With this new collection, MANGO is taking a fresh look at the all-time classics of British country style: trench coats, double-breasted jackets and well-tailored coats, without forgetting both basic and thicker, chunky handmade knits.

Combining these items in a carefree way takes us back to the late 70s, when fashion icons like Anjelica Huston represented freedom and style. Rich textures of tweeds, corduroy and furs, combined with flowing silks and gold highlights, create a contrast between the masculine and the feminine, giving a new meaning to wardrobe classics.

This 70s revival also brings changes in proportions. It emphasises the waist, combines flowing blouses with structured outerwear, and introduces longer skirts and wider trousers. A touch of Boho energy is also added with paisleys, geometric jacquards and floral prints in offbeat colour combinations.

The search for timeless classics is also reflected in the colour palette. A perfect combination between elegant and traditional camel, grey and navy blue forms the base for this season’s colour palette, with hints of more country-inspired tones such as warm browns and winter reds.

Men’s military fashion trend in action

The men’s military fashion trend is not something right out of the rack. The flamboyant style has popularized right from the time it has been introduced starting from the 1980s to the time it was revived in 2008/09. But we can see that the 1980s fashion revival is losing the charm. This decade had called for a new swatch with a high end focus on subtly and quality. The military trend that would evolve in 2010 is expected to be more articulate. Latest fashion trends suggest that the military fashion has found a stalwart position in the wardrobes of all fashion chasers.

There are two key pieces that you need to consider if you wish to try on the military trend this fall. Number one, a greatcoat. The color combos that are strongly recommended are Army green and Navy / Air Force navy hues. You can pick single or double breasted suits but never forget to detail with brass buttons. To get the authentic look, grab some antique buttons or purchase a vintage piece and simply pull out a needle and thread. Make sure that the cut has been altered accordingly. You can leave the coat belted or unbelted. Number two is almost mandatory; aviator boots with shearling. But make sure you are just being on trend not like attending a fancy dress party.
