Dance with Motionwear Runway Attitude

Motionwear LLC, a leading manufacturer of dance, gymnastics, team and cheerleading apparel, introduces a new, fashion forward dance apparel line. Inspired by runway couture lines, the Runway Attitude line brings new fabrics and unique treatments to the dance world.

“We scoured the runways and couture houses to create these fashion forward styles,” said Motionwear Designer Katie O’Brien. “Each leotard has been painstakingly crafted. Our decadent new fabric, a nylon spandex blend, has been specifically fashioned to compliment the dancer’s silhouette.”

The inspiration for the Runway Attitude line came as a result of Motionwear’s search for something new, something not currently available in the dance apparel marketplace. The focus was on stretching the dance apparel boundaries with a high fashion couture line of leotards using fresh new fabrics and exploring detailed treatments.

“It’s something new in the market, something new for Motionwear,” said Motionwear Executive VP Theresa Mason. “These leotards offer dancers a touch of high fashion with meticulously detailed features.”

Fashion centres to boost Taiwan’s textile industry

Taiwan’s Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) has initiated a new fashion hub in Taipei and in other regions across the country. The new fashion centres have been established by the IDB in cooperation with three industry research organizations and a number of local governments.

The fashion centres are established with an aim to intensify Taiwan’s textile industry’s design and technology innovation and to boost its global competitiveness.

Taiwan’s Premier Wu Den-yih said that the opening of the new centres, marks the beginning of a new era for ‘Made in Taiwan’ (MIT) products.

With assistance of the IDB under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), Fashion Institute of Taipei (FIT) was transformed into a fashion centre from a fashion cultural hall.

According to experts, Taiwan’s textile industry has earned itself a good recognition amongst customers across the globe. Besides, an increasing number of Taiwanese designers are bagging prestigious global fashion awards.

The launch of new textile design hubs in Changhua, Yuniln, Taipei and Taichung regions are believed to boost the MIT brand with improved quality, more innovative designs and enhanced value addition. This would be so, because these centres would facilitate streamlining of the industry and thus production volumes could be hiked efficiently.

John-David Mohr recaps fall trends; Style has no Size

Custom Clothing Designer, John-David Mohr of the House of Mohr, coined the phrase “Style has no Size.” He talks about this Fall season's fashion trends and how the conscience consumer can maintain their own sense of style with custom clothing that transcends into any season.

“If you notice, it’s not the lines of fashion which change dramatically from season to season. It is the fabrics and colors that change the most,” says John-David, a Custom Clothing Designer and owner of the House of Mohr fashion boutique. To be on top of the latest season's style, all one has to do is change out the fabric and color patterns. Switching from Summer to Fall, change out your fabric from a silk to a cashmere or fine wool fabric using Fall season's trending colors. "This way, you maintain your own style, yet still enjoy looking and feeling totally fashionable," explains John-David.

Most of John-David's designs can be taken apart and put back together-- the skirts and jackets, pants and tops can all be intermingled and mixed in a myriad of ways to come up with a style that is entirely personalized and matches the season's fashion. According to John-David, this is the difference between ‘style’ and ‘fashion’. “Style is what you do with the latest fashion trends,” according to John-David. The House of Mohr designs sophisticated and trendy, yet classic garment that can be mixed and matched to transform from lightweight fabric of Spring and Summer into Fall or Winter fabrics.

The lace and flowery patterns of this Spring and Summer are trending into the Fall 2011 fashion season, explains John-David, but the lace of Fall is a darker, more powerful color and weight to match the rich hues and chillier air of Autumn. “If you own a particular garment which really flatters you, simply have a similar item of clothing custom designed using the upcoming season’s fabric weight and colors. This way, you’ve preserved your fashionista status and have maintained your own style,” suggests John-David.

The flowers of Spring bloom into bold garden patterns this Fall. Both lace and garden patterns will breach the Spring/Summer to Fall fashion season. “If you have the perfect summer skirt, have the same skirt custom made using this Fall’s rich garden patterns and fabrics,” recommends John-David.

Fashion Design Council of India - FDCI announced new dates for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012, which is now scheduled for Oct 8-12, 2011 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The event was initially scheduled for the month of September.

FDCI has become instrumental in propelling the Indian fashion industry to tread the global business oriented path and believes in delivering the best designers event and top quality venue. Mr. Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI said, “The upcoming Spring/Summer edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week has been rescheduled to October. This is primarily due to the conflicting dates with other international fashion events and the non availability of the Hall no. 18 at Pragati Maidan that has become the standard venue for WIFW. We look forward to the best of Indian fashion designers participating in the event.”

Mr. Atul Chand, Divisional Chief Executive, ITC’s Lifestyle said, “Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week is the single most prestigious and celebrated fashion event of India. Summer Trend: The Scalloped Edge

D&G £30.00 £40.00 £24.00 €57.69 €96.15

Have you noticed this trend gradually sneaking up on us? The scalloped hem? First you saw it on shorts and now it can be seen on everything from dresses to capri pants, blouses and accessories. Echoing natures softest shapes like waves, flowers and shells, it adds a soft, feminine and vintagy touch to your spring-summer wardrobe. I love Topshops cute scallop edged jeans shorts. Team them with the white blouse and a pair of flats for maximum cuteness on a hot day. With one of those great bags from Chloé, of course! And I can tell you, this trend will continue in fall....

This Is My Dream - fashion movies on Yohji Yamamo

Notoriously private Japanese fashion designer icon Yohji Yamamoto lets his guard down in an exclusive, intimate short documentary film about life and the creative process, from Tokyo to New York.

Hailed as a genius, honored by entities from the French government to the CFDA, recognized internationally for his radical innovations and craftsmanship, Yamamoto is a visionary. Known for his mastery of sculptural forms, a penchant for androgyny and asymmetry, and an intellectual-yet-witty approach since he launched his first collection in Tokyo in 1977, Yamamoto has defined the avant-garde in fashion for decades. And yet, after more than 30 years on the world stage, he remains a mystery, cloaked by a careful division between his private life and his public craft.

Opening up about his artistic motivations, his love of music, and his aesthetic vision, the documentary follows Yamamoto through the entire creative cycle of a collection for his revolutionary line in collaboration with adidas, Y-3.

A perfect emblem of Yamamoto’s drive for innovation, the Y-3 label -one of eight distinctive lines the designer oversees- has created a new category in fashion since its introduction in 2002. Born out of a desire to merge Yamamoto’s craftsmanship with adidas’ technical prowess, Y-3 has come to be recognized as the future of sportswear, and it is the backdrop against which the film unfolds.
