Indian retailer The Bombay Store plans global exposure

The Bombay Store, which set standards for the swadeshi movement in India more than a century ago, hopes to introduce more signature stores and spread its legacy far and beyond to all the fashion hubs around the globe.

Established in 1906 as the Bombay Swadeshi Co-operative Store Co. Ltd. by the great Indian patriot Bal Gangadhar Tilak, along with eminent businessman Munmohandas Ramji in 1906, the classy retail store epitomizes Indian panache.

With the Indian retail industry entering a new era, the retail firm is in the midst of change and is even open to foreign investment.

Speaking to fibre2fashion, Mr. Asim Dalal, Managing Director of The Bombay Store, said, “The whole world is opening up and we need to change with the times. The new generation prefers to make their purchases online through their PCs. Hence, business will change.”

Talking about plans to seek funds from overseas, he said, “We are not immediately seeking international funds, but we are not averse to the idea of getting foreign investment in future.”
